So, wedding rings.
The place I wanted to get our rings from has a waiting list longer than my... Well... It's long. Like April-May. You'd think if you were getting mad business, you'd start keeping track of the common orders and start a stock. Durr... Maybe it's some kind of "exclusive custom-made limited edition" BS. Dunno, but neither of us are really known for the whole name-brand designer crap, so we decided we like these rings just as much. Hopefully they know something about selling time-senitive, costly stuff. Still got to find out about the venue, but I'm pretty sure that's in the bag. Still don't have an officiator, though. Don't know any norary publics, and we don't want it to be a courthouse wedding style ceremony anyway. On the other hand, we're not burning any candles or speaking any Gaelic either. Our parents are going to be there (for the most part). Catering is pretty much set with Shalimar, but we may have a dual cuisine setup, 'cause I know a few of the people there aren't going to want to eat channa masala. The DJ is set, the music selection is being compiled. Everything from Fantastic Plastic Machine to Nightmares on Wax to Bel Canto. W00t. And now, back to working on compos for the NOLA roadtrip.

If you want, my friend Jamie, who got ordained through Universal Life Church via the internet just to marry Mark and me, has a livejournal - jacklattie - and I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you e-mailed him either if you had any questions.

He did a FANTASTIC job - kept it personal, relevant, and light. I'm sure you'll do a great job!!!

Coo, another good option. How'd you manage to survive all this planning nonsense?

We tried very hard to remember that it wasn't supposed to be a pain in the butt... that it was our special day and we wanted it to be fun. The second we started stressing out, we knew it was time to take a break. All in all, we just approached it like it was a party that was a little bigger than we were used to throwing. ;-)

It ended up being 108, including Mark and myself. Relatively small when it comes to weddings, but still large enough that people's feelings didn't get hurt. (I have a large family)

Ours is probably going to be even smaller, about 40 people. We're going to go check out the Heidleberg this weekend to make sure it's the right size, and talk to Shalimar about it too.

Then you should definitely try to take a stress-free approach to it. Just try to remember that it's YOUR day and if things don't come out 100% perfect, no one but you two will know. It's a party! :-)

Slick! Basically, go nuts. If I know you, you've got a literary reference and plenty of philosophy on the subject, anything would be good. It doesn't have to be long or involved (in fact, since it's a private ceremony, it's probably better to be succinct), too flowery or too rigid, too ritualistic or too off-the-cuff. Oy. I'd guess we'd have to talk about it. It's not happening until late January, so we've got plenty of time.
