If you request that I migrate your data from your old network drive out in the styx to our nice, big fileserver here, keep in mind that the transfer utility I'm going to use lists filenames as it copies. If the transfer rate is low enough, I can manage to read that I'm copying a ton of pr0n bookmarks.

The question is though, did you make a copy of them all for later perusal?

Ooooh no. I learned a long time ago to leave it at the discovery, you _do not_ want to actually look at it yourself. Last time I opened a curiously-named .jpg, it ended up being a fat chick in bundage. Gah.

When I worked help desk at Ford I found child porn on a Chinese workers computer that was here working on a exchange program. I reported it and he was gone that day.

Which helpdesk?

I've found a lot of seedy crap, but never child porn. I migrated a bunch of design guys' personal shares from one NAS to another, actually managed to clog the destination with data. Did a quick folder size check, found two identical copies of LotR:RotK in two different directories of the same guy's personal share. He had an entire season of Da Ali G Show, too. Busted his ass good, along with about 6 of his friends who had similar stuff. They had a 1TB NAS to share between 109 people (my current building has the same for ~2500 people). Not any more.

I start with Ford Motor Company as a help desk analyst at the Saline Plant back when the IT group was all Ford employees I have since moved up and on to IBM.

Yes I can not believe people think they can get away with that crap.
The child porn thing was reported by some engineers by the guy I was down to check on the claims. He was gone so they all followed me in to his cube to see if that was what was actually on there.

Heh, the days of direct hire helpdesk folks. We walked to work uphill both ways in the snow back then...

You'd be even more surprised now that we allot assloads of space for their shares now. I've had people actually argue with me about putting their full-res family photos up there because they heard I give them unlimited space and that I back it up for 5 weeks. Like they have a right to choke my poor server with their crap from at home. I won't even get started with the people who put non-certified executables out on the public shared drive, then whine at me when they get infected...

I am glad I am out of that.
It used to drive me nuts.
Trying to deal with clueless users.
