[waveform |DJ RAPEKIT - Motion is About to Occur]

This weekend is a bizarre temporal do-over. Last night I ran sound for Cignal to Noise, who OWNS ALL OF YOUR BALLS. It was a total success, I even had the time to toe in the PA cabinets, which evened out the sound dispersal and made the place sound good throughout, not just in the "sweet spot" 15' in front of the stage. Honestly I didn't have to do much at all, just take a pair of XLRs with the whole mix in them and put it through the PA. Had fun tweaking the EQ and feeling like a minute part of the performance. A good time was had by all.

Also, -5 geek points for not Reading The Fucking Manual. My headlights are altogether too easy to replace, I just had to move the washer fluid spout out of the way by removing a single quick-fastener. Unfortunately, Sylvania bulbs aren't as bright and don't throw as wide a beam as the OEM Philips, so my headlight pattern has gone from "pirate" to just "lazy eye". Arrr. Also, the Subaru driver's side wiper is a monstrous thing. Two feet long with some kind of snow shelf thing on it that's not transferable, so technically I've lost a feature by buying cheap blades instead of OEM there as well.

What it comes down to is that the Subaru dealership seems to hate me, or at least be a bunch of dishonest shysters. I'm dead serious, they tried to charge me $500 for my 30K-mile service. They wanted to flush my trans fluid. C'mon, at 30K miles (technically 40K when I brought it in, but still)? That's unheard-of. 50K I could believe, maybe. An oil change, air filter, brake fluid, coolant, transmission flush and diff flush shouldn't even cost that much anyway. $250 would be reasonable. I asked them to just change the oil and look for any other problems. Of course, they came back with a burnt headlight and bad air filter. Funny that you have to remove the air intake to get to the headlight, the one I didn't notice was burnt out... That was $70. The diff and coolant flush was $120 at Valvoline, and my trans fluid looked fine. Will flush the trans at 50K just to be sure. I love my Fuji-cakes, but she's a bit high-maintenance.

In other news, my investment consolidation is going well. I've got my savings account split so that I can write checks against it, online balance transfers enabled so I can put money for the checks and the main balance in a money market account so I get better interest. Investment ideas include Altria, Edison, and Verizon. Considering the ups and downs of dividend reinvestment, would probably do so for Verizon at least. Otherwise, I'm essentially giving myself a raise with a good chance of increasing equity. Also need to switch my mutual fund to FBRVX. Guess I won't be selling my other old crap fund, as Fidelity is where my other old crap fund I've got is. Sold and am waiting for the check on the other one. Once I have that, it's time to dump some of my other wastoid investments and put the proceeds in to those stocks.

Labyrinth. As usual, got called at the last minute. This time, I just told them to call me when the band got there. A sound check was barely necessary, but they ran _really really_ hot off their board. If I had the chance to check them before doors, I would have had them turn their master out on their 12-track down, but I still got the levels to behave at -30dB gain. Mmmm, compression and soft clipping...

I'm heading to Mephisto's right now to open for Preety (technically still don't work there, but Preety is on closing shift again at Sally), no shows I know of.

Yes, account's full again. You have 50 megs of email in your inbox, I only have 100 megs for the whole domain. If you archive your email it should start working again.

Is there any way I can see how much space I am using in general? It used to show so I knew when I had too much.

The version of Squirrelmail that 3Shost runs doesn't have the folder size plugin, but NeoMail displays it right at the top of the page and I think Horde supports display of folder sizes as well.

if dividend reinvestment is what's blowing your skirt up, i'd recommend pepsi and altria [at least that's the sense i get from reading motley fool lately].

or, for some fun, kick some money into a mutual fund that's right up our alley - mutuals.com's Vice Fund (VICEX). it's done well by me, and also offers dividend reinvestment as well, so it works well as a "set it and forget it" money bucket.

The fund normally invests at least 80 % of its net assets in companies that derive a minimum of approximately 25 % of their revenues from industries such as tobacco, gambling, defense/weapons and liquor.
*snort* That's fucking awesome.

But anyway, dividends are the most common form of capital gains in the market I've read, so combining a stable stock with hopes of modest appreciation with dividend reinvestment, I get two exponential growth factors. Other than the pain-in-the-ass taxes, it's sounding mighty good to me. Oh, and I changed my mind about People's Energy back to Southern Copper. It de-diversifies my purchases (FNMIX is Latin America), but it pays a better dividend and has more volume. The question becomes is it worth double the price per share and the volatility?

Also, what about AT&T now that Ma Bell is back in town?

I held T back in the day, and it paid decently. i've got some VZ in my portfolio now as a result of those holdings [i was smart enough to dump the subsequent spinoff shares of LU, albeit not when it was near its peak].

Johnson & Johnson is another good one - big, stable, decent dividends. i have very few rules, other than "don't buy companies i think suck." [getting burned by AOL only served to reinforce this]. i prefer not to know about everything inside the mutual fund black boxes, so long as they're managed well.

but, yeah, the vice fund's prospectus is just cool enough to be worth investing in the gimmick.

if you've got the cash, put some both there, and in the FNMIX - spreads your risk around a bit more. i've recently put some into EABFX and MBAGX for my 401(k) consolidations.

Yeesh, Lucent. Good call. As for JNJ, I can do better than 2.2%. Also note that the Vice Fund's prospectus has a "printed on recycled paper" graphic in their PDF. Irrelevant and ironic!

Ultimately though, I think this page is going to more-or-less dicate my investment strategy.

Maybe I should invest in boobs. Boobs are pretty cool.
