[waveform |BT - Never Gonna Come Back Down (off the server!)]

My workstation is now part of the active directory, and I've offloaded 35 gigs of crap from my poor IDE drive. Now to get a longer IEEE1284 cable and set up printer sharing. That is, unless someone's got an old external JetDirect box... Also, in related news, importing a user profile and all the fandango on 2K is fucking difficult. Future plans include NIC teaming (yes, I know I have one workstation, the point is knowing how it works and how to set it up), the fabled FTP services (once I find an app that doesn't hose the fucking OS when it installs as a service, and isn't IIS), IPSec, maybe even IPv6. Yes, on a PPro-based box that used to have dead bugs in it. Actually, it's handling 2K like a champ. We'll see how it does once I install all the fun stuff.

Set up a server for StarfleetCommand 3. Activision's sucks. We need someone who actually knows what they are doing.

Yeah, right, Activision's server code is probably locked up tight, and a license would cost hundreds of thousands. Besides, I've only got so much public bandwidth, do you really want to be connected to a server that has to divide outbound data between all users into 128k/sec worth of up-pipe?

Actually their server code is public domain and you can download it from their site. But yer still right. Sadly, it seems they lack bandwidth too. The server says it can handle up to 128 plays, yet if more than 12 log on at once everything freezes. Go figure.

I understand what IPv6 is, but I guess I am little confused, is this your home box we're talking about? or is it a server that you're planning to upgrade your Internet Protocol on? I've been lost in your journal for about the last month.
