[waveform |Fantastic Plastic Machine - I've Forgotten My Fagotto]

Sweet, holy mother of fuck taxes are hard. If the government wants my money, why aren't they doing all the work and either sending me the bill or telling my employer how much to reserve? I think I've got it figured out, though. The answer is pay the nice H&R Block people again. They ruled last time. According to P's parents' copy of TurboTax, if we file jointly we're looking at a $3K refund. uNF. Here's my question to all you married (or tax-savvy, hint hint gingersnapp): is it truly better to file jointly as TurboTax says? I've got a ton of 1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-B stuff, she's in a much lower tax bracket W2-wise and has an education credit. According to my records, last time I got $2K from the Feds and got stiffed $900 by the state. P got somewhere around $1K from the Feds and stiffed $300 by the state. According to TurboTax, if we file jointly we get $2800 from the Feds and $100 from the state (because I went to H&R Block last year instead of letting my dad severely screw up my state tax). Sounds favorable to me, but is it?

I did, very much so. Still going to H&R Block it this year, so I have a baseline to do next year's with.
