The Veritable TechNinja
Settling in to the new apartment slowly but surely. On the upside, the home theater works great. Still need to find out how to switch between the digital inputs (only one that works is hooked up to the DVD player at the moment), the "high-end in disguise" DVD player I bought still displays some macroblocking, and the TV seems to overcompress large color gradients resulting in color banding, but it's still pretty damn neat. Kitchen is coming together nicely, took down the laundry room door to facillitate using the built-in shelving there as a pantry. Got a neato new dishrack, put away all the cookware, and have managed to crank out more than one home-cooked meal so far. Grill works pretty well too, but the electric ignitor is worthless as I had expected.
The downside, however, is pretty fucking down. First and foremost, I HAVE NO CABLEMODEM. The jackass installer who came out the day after I moved in made the cable box display anything other than "invalid" on the diags menu and left me sitting at my computer trying to download this mysterious software that will stop the DNS server from resolving all my requests to the server that the software's on. Turns out the connection is spotty, which results in me not being able to download said software and make things not suck, and the fucktard left without making it work. Same goes for all the digital channels as well as a lot of the channels that I thought were analog. So, I'm stuck with no internet access and shitty cable until Comcast can send someone out that knows his ass from a QAM tuner. Have seen two dumbasses so far, a "specialist" is supposed to be stopping by today. I'm not paying a damn thing until it works, and I'm not paying for any of this tomfoolery before that point. In fact, I'd better be compensated for my patience with their bumbling.
Other downsides include a broken phone jack in the living room, broken blinds in the bedroom (which makes getting ready for a shower interesting), wall switches that operate the least convenient outlet possible in the room (only one switched outlet in the living room, and it's the one that I've got all the home theater stuff plugged in to). Other than that, it's a great place. Getting maintenance out today to have them mark the studs in the geek room so that I can put up massive shelving and we can unpack all the collectibles. Already put up my cels, filled about 6'x8' worth of one wall with most of them. The really nice Belldandy cel and the Jiji cel go elsewhere. Then there's just a few boxes of miscellany to go through for anything important and the rest goes in the storage room.
Still waiting on the sectional and bed frame, albeit it should be about a week max for both of them at this point. Sitting on the director chair in the living room is uncomfortable, and laying a foot off the ground to sleep is a bit awkward, but we'll make do. Been playing Disgaea again while we're without viable entertainment, got Laharl up to level 1088 and dealing 10k of damage per hit. Planning on completing the game by beating Prinny Baal with just Laharl. My phone works and it's on the same number, so that's how to get a hold of me if you've been wondering where I am.
