The Veritable TechNinja
Wal-Mart Dance Party!
God I love MFISN
, the lazy man's del.icio.us.
yeah, it was up on burnlab
too a few days ago. :)
Once again, you out-l33t me. I'm not worthy!
On that note, how is Interstate coming?
I haven't done interstate in a while - with the dethlab bi-monthly and occasional other gigs, running a weekly was getting too much for me so i handed everything off to kris - afaik, it still happens time to time, but much like the Lab, Foran's is in a Limbo of openness.
We're opening up for PAS/CAL at the Lager house in December. :) excited about that, the dj stuff has been going really well. Maybe Santa Claus will bring me a mixer? :)
I know the feeling, I was dragging my ass in to work every Friday morning and surviving on caffiene and willpower alone. Thursdays at Labyrinth got cancelled, I didn't have any more money to dump in to promotion and we couldn't compete with Diesel and iLounge. I'm doing random Wednesdays at Mephisto's, and meta_x
is the new Saturday resident there. I'm currently running live sound for Lab and looking to do so elsewhere. I filled in for one of Johnny's shows and found out how disgustingly easy it is. If I can hook up a home theater, hooking up a stage full of instruments is a walk in the park.
Damn, nice gig! What kind of mixers are you looking at? I'm inclined to get a Rane, but they're a bit complicated for ad-hoc use.
Also, got any promotional tips? I've heard MySpace is good for it, but I'm reluctant to use a site that seems more geared towards sleazy hook-ups. Need to boost Mephisto's attendance, but flyering LJ doesn't seem to cut it.
Yeah, the Rane mixers are really nice, but I'm not fond of the one with all the knobs only, sliders are my friend. We used that one once and it annoyed the shit out of me. We have a bit of a kitty saved up, but we'll probably run off to Barcelona with it and lay on the beach and keep using my $50 pawn-shop piece of Neumark crap. ;) Priorities! ;)
Next regular DethLab gig will be either at the end of December or end of February (or both) we should know this week.
And Myspace is an indespensible promo tool - it is far more a bulletin space for bands/dj's than hookups. i get about 10 band emails per day vs. one "wanna" per week. Sign up!
Snob DJs will tell you that knobs are where DJing came from, and that they feel that a crossfader is "cheating". Err, whatev. I just like Rane's adjustable crossfader curve. Vestax makes a good mixer for $150, don't buy a shitty Numark and end up closing a club night when it breaks.
Damn, will do. Anywhere else you get good promotion response?
yeah, but i'm far from a snob dj. ;) i suck! but i have good taste. counts for something, right?
i'm not a crossfader fan myself, i just like the up and down sliders and knobs above so i can cut the bass on one track at the same time and bring the other in - so much of the stuff we play is slamming tracks together from different genres/eras/levels of production - i find that is somewhat better.
some of ellen allien's records are mastered SO fucking loud!
